A planned programme of assessment is required for workers who are exposed to respiratory sensitisers. Occupational asthma is an important occupationalhealth problem with serious implications for both affected individuals and their employers. Continued exposure can lead to the condition worsening even becoming fatal. The sooner a problem is identified the more likely the employee can continue to work. For the employer control of occupational asthma and identification of problems will help to reduce sickness absence, lost production time and compensation payments.
